About Pioneering Chaplaincy!
Richard and Lois Evans
Founders and Directors of
Pioneering Chaplaincy
Richard and Lois Evans each have over 30 years ministry experience and during that time have served in many different ministry roles, including youth and children’s pastors, overseeing small groups and pastoral care, church planting and leadership.
Over the last 6 years their primary ministry focus has been chaplaincy and after completing a feasibility study to explore the need for city centre chaplaincy in Bristol, they launched ‘Bristol Chaplaincy’.
Bristol Chaplaincy provides chaplaincy support in many different places across the Bristol city centre and continues to grow, adding new chaplaincy expressions every year. They have a team of 12 volunteer chaplains who serve across 7 different expressions.

They maintain a database of over 100 chaplains in the Bristol area and facilitate bi-monthly networking meetings to encourage peer to peer support and learning.
In early 2024 and in response to regular requests for training and support, they established ‘Pioneering Chaplaincy’ to provide chaplaincy training, mentoring and coaching.
Exploring Chaplaincy – A course aimed at those exploring chaplaincy as a potential ministry or for those who are relatively new to chaplaincy.
Mentoring – A bespoke person-led 6 week mentoring programme aimed to support the personal development of a chaplain
Coaching – A 12 month programme to provide support to a church, charity or organisation to pioneer a new chaplaincy initiative.
